New Messenger Bag
OK… Cooped up for 3 days due to the ice storm… Need to get out… So I decided to take the pictures I promised and give you a little review of my new Israeli Paratrooper Bag.
Keep in mind this kit is designed around a winter or late fall hunting/woods bumming trip. I hunt a lot. Love it. And this is just the beginning of what you should carry in case something happens. This is just my little kit for small game hunting and being out and about.
It’s a good heavy duty canvas bag. Others are right it’s not waterproof but it can stand a light rain… The two patches are the first American (13 Colonies) and one of my best friends combat patch he gave me (1st Combat Camera USAF). My wife has been teaching me to sew and those patches are my first project.
The front flap opens to this wonderful array of shell holders!!! They’d be great for rifle shells or maybe a 410. 223 to 45/70 prolly. 22′s and 20ga don’t fit though… Otherwise it’d be perfect…
Inside that pocket I carry my ammo. The skoal can contains probably 30 rounds of 22lr. And I have a dozen or so 20 ga #6′s in there.
The next pocket contains the following:
Case XX folder 2 blade
Maxpedition Monkey Pouch
sewing kit

Everything that is contained in the Maxpedition Monkey Pouch

Next pocket contains my columbia toboggan, GI wool gloves, and my carhartt leather gloves (which are very warm and have taken a beaten for 10 years) and a medium sized bandanna.
Next pocket contains the following:
Gerber drop point gator knife
firesteel
Gerber saw
Surefire E2D defender light (extra batteries in a tylenol bottle in my maxpedi)
Ascend stainless canteen
The whole kit along with my little H&R 20 ga Pardner youth gun and a paracord sling. This little gun in and of itself will be getting a review soon. I just need to shoot it more to give it a fair chance.
To me so far this has proved a great deal for $15. I’ve spent lots more on messenger bags and never gotten as much use out of one.
It does what I need it to and carries a lot more than I really need.

The messenger bag sounds terrific, based upon your description. I can’t get the links to work, but will try in a different browser. I saw a picture on Facebook and it looks like you did a great job, James!

Please disregard the previous post. I refreshed the screen and all the images appeared. Very, very nice and outfitted (not surprisingly) with top-flight gear!

Thank you… I’m trying to start reviewing the items I buy. I figure if everyone else is the gear whore I am and needs to pinch pennies like me… Then well… We need to band together and know what works. This bag just did it for me…

You may be even happier with a South African range bag from IMA or even a British field protective mask bag (Sportsman’s Guide) in DPM camo. Cheaper, more durable as genuine surplus, and…well, bro…a bit less “citified”. It’s personal preference though. I like old, used, tested field gear (can’t use my current issue). New Year’s blessings.

Ahhh but it’s about cheap… $15 at the Army Navy store vs shipping from almost anywhere… This is genuine surplus or rather kit.
This bag is rugged as heck. If I can find a SA range bag I’ll take a look at it. The British mask bag isn’t as big (the one I saw) as this. The fasteners and etc on here make it great for hunting. No velcro and etc…
You might like to check out Bushcraftusa.com if you enjoy all this.

Well stocked gear bag. Enough to get you were you’re going, small enough you’d likely have it with you when you need it.

Nice gear there Mr. Southerner Outlook. Love it.
